Supported Employment (Milestones) for the Severely Disabled
Milestones is a program designed to help individuals with mild to severe disabilities attain appropriate and meaningful part-time or full-time employment in an integrated (community) setting. Consumers are referred to the program through the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, the ARC of Calhoun County, and the Cerebral Palsy Center. Once referred, consumers are provided with two job assessments on two different work sites, preferably in areas appropriate to the consumer's individual interests. These assessments are used to identify individual strengths, abilities, and skills. Each consumer in the program has an Employment Specialist providing the assesssment, Job development and on-site job coaching. Once a suitable placement has been secured, contact wtih the consumer and employer is maintained until both are satisfied that the placement is successful. Folowup support continues indefinitely to assure the right person has been placed in the right job.
