Tips for Successful Screen Printing

March 8, 2018

At the Opportunity Center, we want to help ensure you get quality product every time. Follow these tips for successful screen printing:

Allow Adequate Time For Order Completion

The most important part of placing a screen printing order is to remember to give yourself and your printer plenty of time to complete the order to your satisfaction. Asking your printer to rush an order can lead to mistakes and delays.

When possible, contact your printer to begin the process as soon as you are aware of the need! At the Opportunity Center, we prefer to have the artwork/design finalized at least 2 weeks prior to the date of completion. After the artwork is finalized, we prefer to have the shirts ordered at least 8 days before you need them.

Basically, the earlier you can start the ordering process, the better!

Prepare Before Coming To The Initial Meeting

When you come to the initial meeting, be sure to have a general idea of what you would like on your item. One of our designers can design the artwork, but they will need to hear from you on what design elements you have in mind!

You should also be prepared to discuss shirt and design colors at the initial meeting.

By coming prepared, it will help our artists get the design right (or close to the correct design) on the first time.

Remember Standard Viewing Distance

Most people will be viewing a screen printed shirt from at least 5-10 inches away. When deciding on a design for you item, keep that in mind.

Keep It Simple

When deciding on a design for your shirt, simpler is often the way to go. Don’t overwhelm your design viewers with intricate details that will be difficult to see. If you must use a complex design, opting for a lighter colored garment is best.

Use Contrasting Colors

Use contrasting colors, especially when you want your design to pop. For the most noticeable designs, opt for a dark design on a light garment or a light design on a dark garment.

Remember Your Target Demographics

When designing an item, especially one you plan to sell, be sure to keep your target demographic in mind. You will want your item to be one that they are comfortable wearing/using.

Ask Questions

Lastly, it is important to ask your printer about any questions or concerns. Getting your questions answered before printing will help ensure you are satisfied with your product.
